Isla Mujeres

This is my favorite island of all. It is so beautiful here. The people are so nice and the weather has been fabulous. We found the Hotel Vistalmar right down the street from the ferry docks and a few steps to the beach in front of the lighthouse by the Posada del Mar (reference for folks who know Isla). We had lunch at Gomarīs when we arrived and before I found the hotel. Pulpo & calamare, was very good. Checked several hotels after that and settled with the Vistalmar. Have a refrigerator so we went to the super market and got beer, avacados, limes, chips, Edam cheese and then to the mercado for bananas, pear, grapes & fresh squeezed orange juice. We were all set for picnics on the beach. Spent 2 days basking in the sun and swimming in the sea. Met Linda from Long Island and Nancy from Petoskey, MI and invited them for guac on our veranda last night before we left the island. Had the best chili releno I have ever had last night at La Motita where Capt. Tony told us about. We met him while having lunch at Gomarīs that first day. Yesterday morning I talked with the fisherman who had left the island at 12:30 a.m. for Contoy and came in with bags of lobsters huge and a few flounders in the net. The īĻNorteĻ started a few days ago and that moves the lobsters down for the harvests. We have imbibed on them too, but they are expensive. I could have bought one off the fisherman if I had a way to cook them. I did figure it out, but it was too late and we left this a.m. We took a bus from Cancun to Chetumal and are here now at a decent hotel. Costs us more than Isla though and the few isnīt nearly as nice. Tomorrow we will go into Belize. Should be interesting. Got into the bus terminal here around 4:30 and discovered it was not in the center of town. Took a cab for only $1.50 and he found a hotel for us. Tomorrow we will take a cab to the border and enter Belize. Till then...........
