Well, I'm out of the house, the contents are in a POD and stacked on 12/1/05. My friend Deb Lazowski came in for Thanksgiving and helped me pack up. My son Mark and his gal Margaret helped on Saturday and all the big stuff was in the POD. My friend Roger came in on 11/29 and 11/30 we finished the rest. We had everything in the POD by 2:30 p.m. and then I cleaned up the house. Am living at Roger's home at 201 Marcdale Blvd., Indian Rocks Beach, FL 33785 till Christmas when I will go to my daughter's for the Holiday. Surprizingly. I'm feeling very comfortable here and looking forward to my adventure. I'll be out of Roger's place on 12/29 and giving up my Bright House service thus loosing the tampabay.rr email addresses. The new address is mamae1230@yahoo.com. My cars will be residing at the Marcdale address and hopefully the next hurricane season will be kind to Tampa Bay. I went to visit Sasha, my step daughter in Spokane and her husband Kris from 12/2-7. Had a great visit and spent some time in "full blown winter" complete with totally flocked trees everywhere. It was a "Winter Wonderland". I even went skiing with Sasha, only 2 runs as the "ole lady's" legs were burning. I do not resemble the strong intermediate skiier I was 15 years ago, but I did not injure myself. Awaiting our tickets to arrive and working on some last minute finishing up of flights and lodging. Till another day.

This novel has no main characters, but somehow it works. With his extraordinary ability to see across class and ethnic lines, Arguedas constructs a whole community as the hero of the story.
Another translated novel by Arguedas, Deep Rivers, comes out so emotionally, it seems innocent of conscious craft and form. In Yawar Fiesta, however, Arguedas displays a more obvious mastery of the novel, pushing the genre and language into beautiful spaces of song and history. Arguedas's childlike way of observing, these incredible lyric passages that amp up the energy, expose worlds of injustice, resistance, joy, creativity, dialogue... I admire Frances Barraclough, the translator, for creating new hybrid spaces out of the wonderful mess Arguedas made of Spanish and Quechua.
For anyone with an interest in the Andean highlands, Arguedas is really a must read. If you're a trekker on the Inca Trail, take this book along with you. It will make a pilgrimage of your tourism.
